Mill Lake (#136):
Like Titus, Mill Lake is one of the easier lakes to access in the Big Wood Valley. The crux of the hike is crossing Prairie Creek, which can be difficult early in the season. Mill Lake is formed by water backing up behind a large landslide deposit beneath pt.9568. The water drains directly into and beneath this half-mile of rocky debris which explains the lack of an outlet stream. The lake will slowly drain throughout the summer leavingexposed sand and mud flats for late summer visitors. The mid-summer wildflowers along sections of the creek are beautiful.
Drive north on Highway 75 toPrairie Creek Road (18.6 mi). Turn left and follow the dirt road to the parking loop andtrailhead (2.6 mi).
