This newly built BLM trail starts at Old Cutters Park in Hailey. From the east side of the park, Hang Tight takes off through the cut in the trees and shadows the hillside until it turns east up Hangman Gulch. About 1/3 mile from the park, you will reach a three way intersection. At the intersection, Hang Tight will stay straight, continuing up the drainage while Hang Loose trail peels off to your right. Follow Hang Tight up the drainage for a moment, you will then start to climb the hillside to your right. The climp contains a few switch backs and long contours across the slope. Hang Tight provides a gradual climb that is perfect for hiking, running, or mountain biking as it climbs up the drainage and eventually takes you to a low saddle where you can look down into Quigley Canyon, Hangman Gulch, and a small unnamed draw above Hailey. Be sure to take a moment to enjoy the views of the City of Hailey, Carbonate Mountain, and west out Croy Creek. From here you can turn around for an out and back or continue straight on Hang Loose Trail to make it a loop. You can also add a little extra and hike to the top of Buttercup Hill (no bikes allowed on this section of trail) for a slightly higher perspective. Hang Tight Trail can be used in any direction.
This trail was made possible through the hard work of BLM, IMBA, City of Hailey, WRTC, and BCRD.
To minimize impacts to deer and elk these trails are subject to seasonal closures from January 1 — April 30.
