This newly built BLM trail can be accessed by taking the Hang Tight trail from Old Cutters Park. At the three-way intersection Hang Loose trail peels off to the right as you head up Hangman Gulch. Hang Loose works its way up and across the hillside above Old Cutters Park and into the small draw just south of Hangman. The trail provides a gradual climb or decent that is perfect for hiking, running, or mountain biking as it works its way across the draw and to the low saddle where it intersects with the Hang Tight trail above Hangman Gulch and Quigley Canyon. From the switch back closest to the trail’s highpoint be sure to hang loose for a moment and enjoy the views of Hailey, Carbonate Mountain and west out Croy Creek. From here you can turn around for an out and back or continue on to Hang Tight Trail to make it a loop. You can also add a little extra and hike to the top of the trail that takes you to Buttercup Hill (no bikes allowed on this section of trail) for a slightly higher perspective. Hang Loose Trail can be used in any direction.
This trail was made possible through the hard work of BLM, IMBA, City of Hailey, WRTC, and BCRD.
To minimize impacts to deer and elk these trails are subject to seasonal closures from January 1 — April 30.
